Bali, Indonesia -- Island of the Gods and tropical paradise
|
With rich history, culture and arts, beautiful beaches, green rice fields, and
tropical climate, Bali, a tiny tropical island off the eastern shore of Java, Indonesia, is one of the world's greatest
tourist destinations. Bali has been considered a paradise more than a century ago.
Bali Island is only 84 miles long and 48 miles wide, and has about 2250-square-mile of surface area.
It is difficult to imagine that Bali, another Pacific paradise, was formed by Volcanoes.
The power of nature magically created this mystical paradise and complex geography combined with
mountains, rain forests, lakes, rivers, coasted lowland and sandy beaches.
About three million of Balinese are primarily descendants of Malay races that migrated to
Bali Island thousands of years ago. Indonesia is a Muslim nation, but Bali is religiously
different from the rest of Indonesia, most Balinese are Hindus. Balinese Hinduism are in
various sects of Hindu-Buddhism, the veneration of ancestors and ancient Indonesian animisms.
Bali is also known as the "Island of A Thousand Temples". There are literally tens of thousands
of all sizes of temples in Bali.
According to the Balinese, the universe is divided into three realms: the realm of the Gods, the realm
of the demons and ground spirit, and the realm of people. The microcosmos, same as the universe, is also
split into three areas: the mountains - the home of the Gods; the sea - the powerful forces of dissolution
dwell; the region - the place where people live. This order of three parts division is repeated endlessly
in people life and human body.
Based on this order of universe, the heart of Balinese cultural life is the family compound.
The compound is a microcosm of the Hindu-Balinese universe.
On this Island of the Gods, Balinese Music, Dance and dramatic performances form an important part
of its religion. No celebration or gathering is complete without music and dance.
In festivals all temples with beautiful ornaments, Balinese with finest clothing, and the breathtaking
scenery of tropical island, create one of the most unique, beautiful, exotic, fascinating places on earth.
