A tropical wonderland
Malaysia is a tropical wonderland situated in the heart of South-East Asia just north of the Equator.
It is made up of two regions, i.e., Malay Peninsula which lies between Thailand and Singapore, while
East Malaysia is situated across the South China Sea on the island of Borneo. Together, these two
regions cover an area of about 330,434 square kilometers.
Malaysia has 24,385,858 (July 2006 estimate) population, including Malay 50.4%, Chinese 23.7%, Indigenous 11%, Indian 7.1%, and others 7.8%.
Bahasa Malaysia is the official national language but most Malaysian people speak English.
Malaysian time is eight hours ahead of G.M.T. and sixteen hours ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time.
Malaysia uses ringgit (MYR) as its currency. In 2005, one US dollar is exchanged for about 3.8 ringgits.
With modern telephone and communications system, Malaysia has about 10.04 million Internet users in 2005.
