Parks and Gardens - 2
-- in and around Victoria
|
With its mild, sub-Mediterranean climat, fertile soils and fanatical gardeners, Victoria is known as the City of Garden.
Annual Flower Count in February every year, thousand of beautiful hanging baskets around the streets, as well as public and private
gardens in every corner of the city, make Victoria one of the most colorful and loveliest cities of the world.
There are many parks and gardens in the Victoria area, ranging from famous Butchart Gardens and Beacon Hill Park, to those small gardens in front of the Royal B.C. Museum.
Goldstream Provincial Park
Goldstream Provincial Park is located on Highway #1 about 19 kilometers north of Victoria. With its 600 year old
Douglas firs, red cedar and arbutus trees, waterfall, and campgrounds, it creates a super environment for visitors
who love nature.
In November every year, salmon return from the Pacific Ocean and enter the Goldstream River to spawn and die.
When the fish struggle upstream and turn the clear water red, hundreds of spectators cheered and witnessed this
special natural event.
Royal Roads University Campus
Royal Roads University, originally named Hatley Park, includes a beautiful Japanese Garden and
several other gardens on a 650-acre estate originally owned by James Dunsmuir.
Government House
Government House is located in the prestigous Rockland area. It is the official residence of British Columbia's Lieutenant-Governor.
