Parks & Gardens
Hawaii Big Island, known as the Big Island, also has two other nicknames, i.e. "Volcano Island" and
"Orchid Isle". It has 4,050 square miles area with famous Mauna Kea Mountain which is 13,796 feet high
from the sea level. Although the lava took away some portions of the Big Island but it is still rich with
tropical plants, flowers, trees, and agricultures. Flower farms, cowboy ranches, and agriculture stations
spread over the island.
There are more than 70 Parks and Forests. Some of them offer visitors with spectacular views of water falls,
such as 80-foot Rainbow Falls which is 1.5 miles from Hilo.

Hawaii Volcano National Park

The Hawaii Volcano National Park is best known with its two live volcanoes and is major attraction of
this Island.
It is located in south of Hilo on Hwy 11. This national park offers visitors with several scenic
overlooks, including Halemaumau Overlook and Kilauea Overlook.
The Volcano Art Center displays some artistic creations inspired by volcanoes.
Thomas A. Jaggar Museum exhibits Hawaii volcanoes past and present history. All the trails on the
Big Island, including Halemaumau Trail and Devastation Trail, start from the Hawaii Volcano
National Park.
Kilauea Visitor Center is a good place to start your journey. You can get latest information on volcano
activity, trail conditions, and park's maps.
Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens

Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens is a 25-acre garden with more than 2,000 species of trees and plants.
Preserved with streams, waterfalls and lily pond, this rainforest nature will make you body and soul
far from civilization and enter to a paradise.
Liliuokalani Gardens
Liliuokalani Gardens, located at Lihiwai Drive of Hilo, is a 30-acre Japanese garden. This waterfront
garden will present to you with Japanese pagodas, arched bridges, and patches of bamboo.
It is a quite interest place for relaxation.
