-- Around the Garden Isle
Kauai Island, knows as the Garden Isle, has many famous parks and vivid gardens.
Most of the beach parks are scattered along the seashore. National Tropical Botanical Garden, Waimea
Canyon Park, Koke'e State Park, Wailua River State Park, and Polihale State Park are some of the most
famous parks. Some of these parks have campgrounds, picnic areas and other facilities.
There are also some beautiful gardens and waterfalls, including Wailua Falls on the east side of
Kauai and Waimea Falls Park off Kamehameha Highway.
Waimea Canyon State Park
Waimea Canyon State Park is located in West Kauai at Hwy 550 parallel with Waimea River. With 1,866 acres, it overlooks
the deep and colorful gorge of Waimea Canyon, one of the Hawaii's spectacular natural scenery.
You can visit Waimea Canyon State Park by car or by tourist bus. Waimea Canyon State Park has many
lookouts and trails for hiking or picnic.
National Tropical Botanical Garden
The National Tropical Botanical Garden has more than 5,000 species of plants and flowers. It is one of the
greatest gardens on Kauai Island. It is combination of two gardens - Allerton Garden and Lawai Garden.
Found in 1870s, the Allerton Garden is a 100-acre land filled with plants, flowers, pools and fountains.
The 186-acre Lawai Garden is research facility of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
Kokee State Park
Koke'e State Park is located 15 miles north of Kekaha on Koke'e Road (Highway 550) and adjoins
Waimea Canyon State Park. This more than 4,300-acre state park has a lot of attractions to offer.
There are Koke'e lodge cabins, shops and restaurant. The campgrounds and picnic facilities are

Na Pali Coast State Park
The Na Pali Coast State Park is located on the northwest coast of Kauai. The view of Na Pali Coast
is impressive but hiking in the park is a very challenging activity. Camping permit is required in

Other Parks and Gardens
Wailua River State Park is located on Hwy 580. The Lydgate Park offers visitors with beach, picnic
area and campground. Along the river upstream, there is Smith's Tropical Paradise with a lovely garden.
Take a riverboat tour up the Wailua river you will reach the Fern Grotto with beautiful
scenery.
